Trump Reportedly Scraps Anti-LGBT Executive Order, But Vows To Give Churches More Political Power
As of the time of this writing, we’re still waiting for the rumored and anticipated executive order granting sweeping religious freedoms. Although VP Pence is on record saying discrimination has “no place” in the Trump White House, most look at Pence’s own record, as well as the record of each member of the Trump team, and expect some sort of wholesale religious exemption for marriage equality, abortion, and trans rights.
Supreme Court Will Hear Gavin Grimm’s Landmark Transgender Rights Case In March
The U.S. Supreme Court will hear the groundbreaking transgender rights case in March. Gavin Grimm, a transgender teen, is suing his high school in Virginia for the right to use the restroom and locker room that corresponds with his gender. After Donald Trump was elected, there was concern regarding whether the court would uphold last October’s decision to hear the case. If SCOTUS nominee Neil Gorsuch is confirmed within six weeks, the case could be decided by the full court. A lower court has ordered the school to accommodate Grimm, but that order is on hold thanks to a High Court injunction.
