The Italian Senate voted this week to approve civil unions in that country. However, the victory is not without its drawbacks. The bill does not allow for join adoption of children that are biologically related to one of the parents. This provision was removed from the bill because it proved to be a major sticking points with centrist parties in that country. Via Joe.My.God.:
By a vote of 173-71, moments ago the Italian Senate approved civil unions. The bill now moves to the House of Deputies where easy passage is expected. LGBT groups are calling the win a bitter victory as it comes without the formal legalization of stepchild adoptions by same-sex parents.
