This week marked further progress in the advance of recognizing same-sex unions worldwide. Taipei, Taiwan now allows for the registration of same sex unions. This marks the second city in Taiwan to recognize these unions after the change was quietly rolled out this past Wednesday. White a move in the right direction, Gay Star News notes “Registered partnerships have no legal effect, do not grant inheritance rights and will not appear on ID cards or household registration certificates. But if the couples sign a separate data-sharing agreement with hospitals, courts and police, partners will be able to give consent for surgery.”

Additionally, the world’s smallest country approved same-sex marriage this week. The Pitcairn Islands, a British colony in the Southern Pacific Ocean legalized same sex marriage for its 56 residents this week.
