Gender-neutral coloring book seeks to undermine stereotypes

By John Mack Freeman

Illustrator Sophie LaBelle has put together a fun and educational coloring book for children that teaches children it’s okay to not match the societal stereotype of their gender. Via Gay Star News:

‘Ça déborde !’ (It’s overflowing!) is designed for kids aged four and up, to help them understand that not everyone fits into neatly defined gender binaries.[…]

Sandro/a is neither a boy nor a girl,’ the first page explains, illustrated with a picture of a child on a skateboard.

‘Xe identifies as gender fluid. Some days xe feels like a boy; other days, xe feels like a girl instead. Today, xe feels fantastic!’

For a community that has long been unafraid to color outside the lines, this book is a welcome addition.
