After a long string of successes, marriage equality advocates have suffered setbacks in two states in recent weeks. In both Tennessee and Louisiana, judges found against marriage equality, allowing same sex marriage bans to remain in effect in those states.
However, the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, by a unanimous three-vote verdict, found that same sex marriage bans were unconstitutional. This had the effect of making marriage equality legal in both Wisconsin and Indiana. While it is expected that officials from those states will appeal the decision to the Supreme Court, this ruling marks the 37th win for marriage equality out of the last 39 times it has come before the courts.
