Gay-Friendly Newspaper Confiscated at Christian College

Newspapers of all stripes have had their fair share of issues over the last decade, but rarely have they been banned outright. At Cedarville University in Ohio, the Baptist college’s administration has seized the student-run paper for content that they don’t approve of. Specifically, the paper had started to garner a reputation for having a pro-LGBT stance.

The paper had run numerous articles in recent weeks featuring headlines such as “I’m Gay. Why Must I Live In Fear At Cedarville?” and an op-ed from a student leader who had been removed from several positions after he came out.

University President Thomas White and Vice President of Student Affairs Jonathan Wood confronted student editor Zach Schneider claiming that he did not have permission to be distributing the paper. When they grabbed the papers out of Schneider’s hands, they told him they were being confiscated. There has been no response from White’s or Wood’s office from various press requests.
