The citizens of Dallas, Texas overwhelmingly voted Tuesday night to include sexual orientation and gender identity in the city’s nondiscrimination policy found in the City Constitution. Over 77 percent of those who voted in the election were in favor of including the new language. Via Lone Star Q:
Dallas already prohibited discrimination against city employees based on sexual orientation and gender identity and expression in its equal employment opportunity policy.
However, earlier this year, the mayor and City Council appointed a Charter Review Commission to review the City Charter and recommend amendments. Nell Gaither, president of Trans Pride Initiative and a member of the city’s LGBT Task Force, said several Task Force members were asked to comment.
