In a minor move that still manages to provoke the same eye-roll-worthy responses from the anti-LGBT crowd, the state of California moved this week to remove gender-based language from their marriage certificates. Instead of the terms “husband” and “wife,” the state will now have two spaces that say “spouse” and will refer to the individuals in other spaces as a “married person.” The law passed easily inside the California legislature, and it will take effect on January 1, 2015.
